Yvonne O’Gara and Rhonda Kennedy collaborate to create an installation of warmth and comfort in the cold wet winter; featuring work involving fabric, light, altar boxes, food, service and intention.
Thanks a hundred billion to everyone who came out for the opening on such a blustery night! The blackout was a fun little reminder from the universe to take a moment and feel small, and the warm, family vibe and team work that everyone displayed jived perfectly with the intention of the show: banding together in the dark days and supporting each other with love, kindness and humor.A special big thanks to the Egg family for the candles, the generator, the help hanging and then striking all the extension cords and whatnot, as well as to our dedicated squad of volunteers for keeping it all together and taking everything in stride. Thanks to Marlon, the DJ who brought us tunes all night, and Larry Yes for sharing his beautiful hopeful music with us.
About the show
I had the pleasure of doing a studio visit at Rhonda’s house and we are in for a serious and sacred treat; her home was like being inside of an alter or sacred shrine, and her work for the show will undoubtedly confer a sense of sanctuary to the space as part of an integrated installation.

Yvonne’s studio space in the Egg (the warehouse that the gallery is part of) is full of odd metal parts, tassles, segments of shiny fabric that she assembles into lamps and other objects that feel alive, creatures with light emitting from their beings. Her presence has really made the warehouse feel like home, and any one who has slumped into the space and been lovingly cared for and fed by Yvonne will attest to her powerful love and commitment to service.
Yvonne will be enlisting the help of some of the talented builders and artists in our Egg community to build out the gallery and transform it into a tactile installation for the month of January, featuring her innovative light sculptures and tapestry influenced by her decades-long experience as a fashion designer, teacher and artist.
Check back soon for resumes and artist statements, along with some great pictures of the work.
