Crossover

Martha Wallulis & Krislyn Dillard

A duo show featuring new paintings by Krislyn Dillard and Martha Wallulis. They are both talented painters who met back in 1997, became friends and have been influencing each others work ever since.

Martha Wallulis
‘s work for this show continues to build on a foundation of ideas that she explored in her senior thesis, completed this past year at PNCA. In her own words:

“In my thesis work I started focusing on abstraction more and more, and built a conceptual framework around concepts of the infinite and eternal, tying together elements of physics, space-time, ancient egyptian art… Since then, I’ve been continuing to work with abstraction in various ways.”

Krislyn Dillard
‘s series of gouache‘s titled, “Trees for the Forest” simultaneously function as abstract explorations of color and form and rich explorations of the historical symbolic narrative suggested by the woods in folklore and mythology. In her own words:

“How much more beautiful something seems when there is an edge of danger to it. The forest has long been theme to romantic notions, and a place to be feared. What lurks in the shadow beneath the tree line? Is it the big bad wolf as in the story of Little Red Riding Hood? Or is it merely a trick of the light? The forest can be dangerous as well as alluring. It can make you want to wander too far and trap you. But, how can we not dare to look when the vista can be so breath taking?”
