Launch Pad Gallery: Featuring the work of local emerging artists.

Calling all Dreamers…

We have 108 people in the show!! Woo Hoo! That’s a lot of work in a none-too-huge gallery, which means that the Dreams show is officially closed (meaning if you haven’t already signed up to participate, you’ve missed your chance)

To everyone who signed up, what an exciting show this will be! If you missed signing up for this show, please come to the opening, feel free to contact us to help out (dreams@launchpadgallery.org), and sign up for next years Love show now.

Performers/performance artists:
If you have a piece that you think would be perfect for this show, please email us so that we can discuss the idea. FYI- The openings for group shows are very well attended, which is great, but they are also REALLY crowded and it can be hard to get people to focus, consider this when thinking about your piece.

This October, in the liminal month between summer and fall, Launch Pad Gallery invites you to delve deep into the private world of your mind and contribute one piece to our sixth open call group show about dreams!

Nearly a third of your life is spent sleeping, inhabiting a world visible only to your mind’s eye, bounded only by the firings of your synapses. Naked dreams; flying dreams; falling dreams; fever dreams; prophetic dreams; sex dreams; dream lovers; dreams of the dead; day dreams; dreams of glory; hopes & dreams; nightmares; “I have a dream”; a dream within a dream….

What happens to a dream deferred? How different really is dreaming from being awake? Where do you go when you dream, and who do you become? Where does the dream end and reality begin? What are your dreams and aspirations and how do they affect you today and shape who you will be tomorrow?

Please participate and share your dreams with us…

The Basics

The Dreams show is limited to 100 people. It is an open-call (ie. non-juried) show open to artists at all levels of experience, from emerging to established professional, regardless of age, gender, race, orientation, religion, body type, politics, etc. If you’ve never shown your art before, you are still welcome to participate! (8/19 show is officially closed)

One piece per artist only! 2D Work must be no bigger than 2ft x 2ft and preferably smaller. It doesn’t have to be framed, but it must be securely wired to hang– no pins, clips, string, tape or tacks! (We can help you figure this out, just be in contact well before you bring in your work)

Work can be in any media; as well, your work doesn’t have to be for sale, but if is, the gallery will take a commission of 40%*. We want to encourage you to make new work for this show, and to take risks. Your piece should respond to dreams, but how it relates needs to be clear only to you, so make your piece as personal or abstract as you want to.

Each artist will be asked to contribute the small sum of $10* to offset the enormous cost of putting on the show, as well as bring a potluck food item to the opening. If you CANNOT pay the $10 but you have a great dream to share, please sign up for the show anyway and send us an email letting us know your situation. We will work something out.

*About the Money
The reality is that Launch Pad Gallery takes money to run, and hopefully this show will help raise some of it to help keep us going. I’ve been operating Launch Pad for nearly 3 years, always trying to improve the gallery incrementally over that time, and in doing so, I have steadily accumulated debt. I talked with many artists after the last group show, and everyone who I spoke with said that they would be glad to contribute more towards the cost of putting on the show as well as give a higher percentage of their sales to support the gallery (fire permits, OLCC and show cards alone cost over $450 for group shows). So basically, the dream that we as a gallery have for this show is to encourage creativity, provoke thought and share great art with the world, and at the same time raise some funds so we can pay down some of our debt and stay in business in 2009!

I appreciate your support and understanding,
Ben Pink, Gallery Director
